    NiSV Certification: Mandatory for Laser Treatments in Germany

    The NiSV (Ordinance on Protection against the Harmful Effects of Non-Ionizing Radiation) has regulated who is permitted to use lasers, IPL, HIFU, or high-frequency devices on humans in Germany since December 31, 2020. Since December 31, 2022, the specialist certificate (Fachkundenachweis) has been mandatory for all corresponding applications.

    Who requires the certification?

    Any person who performs laser, IPL, HIFU, or RF applications on humans in a studio, clinic, or mobile unit. This applies to both owners and practitioners – including in cases of outsourcing.

    Training Modules under the Ordinance

    The NiSV distinguishes between three main modules depending on the device and indication:

    • Module: Hair Removal & Pigment Treatments (Laser/IPL)
    • Module: RF/EMS/Ultrasound (HIFU, Radiofrequency)
    • Module: Medical Applications (Tattoo removal, vascular treatments) – requires application by a physician

    How much does NiSV training cost?

    In 2026, costs per module range between 1,200 € and 2,500 €, including the examination fee.

    Who is allowed to treat without NiSV certification?

    Only licensed physicians with the appropriate additional qualifications for the respective application.

    Is the certification valid throughout the EU?

    No, this certification is valid specifically in Germany. Other DACH countries (Austria, Switzerland) have their own individual regulations.
