The Photoacoustic Effect
Picosecond pulses (10⁻¹² s) generate a significantly stronger photoacoustic effect compared to nanosecond pulses (10⁻⁹ s). The pigment is shattered into much finer particles, allowing the lymphatic system to transport them away more efficiently.
Treatment Sessions, Colors, and Risks
- Sessions: Picosecond requires 4–8, Nanosecond requires 8–15 for comparable results.
- Colored tattoos (green, blue, red): Picosecond is clearly superior.
- Risk of scarring / hypopigmentation: Lower with picosecond technology.
- Cost per session: Picosecond is 20–40% higher – but requires fewer total sessions.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will every tattoo disappear completely?
Black tattoos are usually removed completely. Green and yellow pigments often remain as a faint shadow.
How long should I wait between sessions?
At least 6–8 weeks, to allow the lymphatic system sufficient time to transport the particles away.
